CANTERBURY'S ANNIVERSARY.
THE FIFTY-EIGHTH. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PUBSS A33OOIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH,' This Day. The fifty-eighth anniversary of Canterbury is being celebrated to-day, which is being generally observed as a holiday. Heavy rain over-night left all the parks very wet under-foot, and the floral fete at Lancaster Park was postponed till Saturday. The weather is now beautiful, but far from warm. J Many picnics that should have set out ] early were delayed till the sun appeared. The Old Colonists' Association members ate out on a land-marking pilgrimage, planting memorial stones to mark the sites of historic events. The .weather is fine for the Christchurch Racing Club's second day's races. Notwithstanding the weather, the early train brought in many country visitors. The evening papers are not publishing.
