, "HUMPTY DUMPTY." A crowded audience in the Oper* House last evening testified to the continued popularity of "Humpfcy Dompty." The "wheel of life,*' revolving with its burden, of feminine loveliness in the centre of the "halls of light," affords a dazzling spectacle, the gorgeousness of which is not often equalled. The Dame is easily' lirst favourite in the cast and "she" miEsed noi opportunity of provoking mirth. Tuneful melodies, dainty dresses, pretty dances and all that go to the making of a successful extravaganza, are found in the production. Matinee performances will be given tomorrow and Wednesday. Booking for the remainder of the "Humpty Dumpty" season is proceeding actively at tha Dresden. FULLERS' ENTERTAINERS. The popular programme presented by Fullers' Entertainers at the Theatre Royal is attracting largo audiences night, ly. Clarry Lyndon and Alice Wren made their first appearance last night i'u the American sketch "Riley's Mistake, 1 ' a successful "turn," in which was introduced a graceful skipping-rope dance. To-morrow Master Byron, a boy soprano, and Miss Lorraine Tansley will appear The American Fleet pictures have been a great success. This evening a new film, just received by the Vancouver mail, will be shown. It depicts the Dieppe motor race, and is said to be full of thrilling incident. Tha remainder of the programme will ba shared by Dennis Carney, the quaint Yorkshire comedian, the Swift Trio in. their comedy turn, Hugh Huxham m illustrated eongs/and Nellie Power, soubrette. ROYAL PICTURES. The Royal Pictures at His Majesty's Theatre show no signs of waning popularity. Among the many novelties just received are "The Chauffeur's Dream," a remarkably clever picture ; "Moscow Under Water," a picture of this famous city in flood time, and introducing interesting little details of Russian daily life ; "His first Frockcoat," a humorous study ; and "the Paris dog Show." "True Till Death" is a drama in cellul^vd film, which is as full of . pathos as som» other pictures are of comedy. An afternoon performance for young folk will be given to-morrow. . j THE MALLINSONS. A unique distinction will characterise tho song recitals of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mallinson > which will be given at tha Town Hall on Wednesday and Friday, 2nd and 4th September, for Queen Alexandra, as reported by cable, has accorded her immediate patronage to the "Mallinson recitals." Mr. Albert Mallinson, the composer, and his wife, the Danish soprano, have appeared on various occasions before Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty is keenly interested in the work of this modern English composer, and has often expressed herself as delighted both with. Mr. Mallinson's s>ongs and the charming and artistic interpretations of his wife. The other members of the party include Miss Rebe Kussmann, a young Russian violinist ; Mr. William Rojbyns, Australian basso ; and Miss Evelyn Wyman, pianist. JUNIOR ENDEAVOUR EXHIBITION. ! Kent-terrace schoolroom was again crowded last evening. Rev, M'Donald Aspland, president of the Endeavour ■ Union, in opening the evening's programme, compared the juniors with the small insects which by means of cooperation do so much. Public interest was shown last evening by the large attendance of adults. Vocal items were contributed by Miss Dodds, Jack. Mountier, and others. The winners ' in tho scrap book competition are as follow : — Girls' division — Trinity Society Ist, Kent-terrace 2nd. Boys — Ohiro Baptist Ist, Blenheim Anglican 2nd. The stalls and side shows were well patronised, and the supper rooms were crowded out. TW exhibition will be brought to a clos© this evening. Last night the weekly meeting of tho Wellington Literary and Debating Society was held in' tho Taranaki-street Institute. Mr. E. L. Burgess occupied the chair. Interesting essays were read by Miss R. Waterlionse on "John Milton" and Miss R. Keys on "Charles Dickens." After some discussion of tha subjects a hearty vote of thanks to these ladies for their papers was passed. The Gregg Shorthand Association held 1 tjheir tn-weekly "gem" gathering last nighty in the association's rooms, Cubastreet. Gems were given by the Misses Christie, Coad, Coulson, O'Neil, Tregear, and Messrs. Pearce and Wilkie.
