PETONE AND HUTT.

HUTT PARK CONTROL BOARD. A meeting of the newly- formed Hutt Park Control Board was held in committee last evening, the chairman (Mr. Russell), piesiding. There were also present, the Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. \V. M'Kwan), the Mayoi' o£ Eastbourne (Mr. F. Li. Uolton), Councillors Southgaio, and Nicholson (Petone), and Councillors Baldwin and Hodgins (Lower Jlutt). The chairman reported tho result of enquiries made of the late trustees. The balance-sheet received, with outstanding liabilities, showed a cicdit balance of about £14. A deputation from the Hutt (iolf Club waited upon the board with the object of coming to an understanding with regard to the club's lease of tho park. They mado suggestions in connection with the working of the ground, which they contended would bo beneficial to both parties. The whole of tho questions raised were referred to the chairman and Mr. M'Ewan to deal with. Certain matters arc still in course of negotiation, and it will lake some time beioro the board can put the control of the park on a satisfactory basis. THE NEW WHARF. The length of tho approach lo the new wharf at Petone which is to ha picket fenced will be 933 feet, while the wharf proper somewhat wider than the approach' (37 feet in width) will project out 364 feet over the sea. At the beginning of the structure will be a concrete wall some 66 feet long. Entrance to the wharf when completed may bo effected by two small and four largo gates. Halfway up the wharf a cart dock, covering three bays of 60 feet, is to be provided. At the entrance to the main wharf there will be a set of steps, a small office, and a lamp post, whilo another lamp-post is at tho end. For the distance of twelve bays past tho approach there will be simply a post and rail protection, and the remainder of the wharf will be open. . The opening to tho wharf faces the centre of tho end of Victoria-street, and the structure will run towards the end of Evr.ns Bay. The piles to be used aro of ironbark, and range from 20 to 44 feet in length. As already indicated, it is satisfactory to learn that there i:, every likelihood of a line of rails being placed on tho wharf at tho conclusion of the present contract. COURT SITTINGS. Befora Mr- R. Mothes, J.P., at Petone Police station, yesterday, a first offending inebriato, was convicted and' fined ss. As tho result of a fracas shortly after ten o'clock last evening in front of the Central Hotel, two men J. JS'eary and F. Ashton, both strangers to the tOAvn, were to-day each fined 40s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. Tho accused wero allowed two months in which to pay tho fine on the understanding tiiat they lett the district immediately. Messrs. R. W. Short and J. W. M'Ewan, wero iho presiding justices. BATHS FOR PETONE. Tho Potone Borough Engineer (Mr. W. H. Cook) has been instructed to report upon a municipal baths scheme for Petone It is understood that, & satisfactory scheme could bo obtained for between £3000 and £4000 and that school /children could bo admitted free, the admission money for adults, reason tickets, etc., being sufficient to cover tho interest charges. BOWLING. The following will repicsent the Hutt Bowling Ciub against Petono on Saturday next at the Hutt green :— Stevens, Henry, Eliott, Murphy ; Hendry, llolilard.'F-.
