EDUCATION BOARD. THIS AFTERNOON'S MEETING.

Tho Education Board met this afternoon. Present — Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, M.P. (in tho chair), A. H. Vile, J. Kebboll, A. W. Hogg, M.P., W. C. Buchanan. FINANCE. The statement of firmnce, after providing for pay-sheet, bhowed on buildings account a debit balance of £1817, and a debit balance on general account of £252. The credit balances were — Secondary account, £150; technical, £75; teacheis' salaries, £1225; manual and technical account (dr.), £185. The pay-shoet totalled £8288. The principal items wore —Buildings, £2009; general, £1229; secondary, manual and technical £393- teachers' salaries, £4300. Receipts for February amounted to £10,147. The chairman stated that the indebtedness was lower this month by 50 per cent. on that for January. The bum for buildings had already been received from the Government, and no moro was to be expected unless it vere in the nature of speoial grant. WORKS. Tho Works and Finance Committee recommended — Thai the following estimated grants he authorised: — Island Bay — H.P. water service, £14 9s. Paraparaumu, — Residence improvements, £15 15s; othei works to be done when the school is .being overhauled. Cress Creek — Residence drainage, £8. Mangatainoka— Water sor wicc, £14 ; provided tho board is secur ed a perpetual supply of witter. Th« clerk of works was instructed ro report n; to the probable cost and advisability oi carrying out, ii. whole or in part, work proposed by Island Bay Committee to warda which £45 is offered ; aud on the state of the school building at Eketahuna nnd the practicability and cost of ro moval to new bite. The board approvec of the unauthorised works at Brooklyn including cost of a high-pressure watei service, £19.85. Tho report was approv ed It was further resolved to invite ten ders foi the erection of a building o four rooms on the now site at. Pahintui and to accept the lender of W. Dougla: for additions at Worser Bay at a cos of £330. TCARORI. The board adopted the rerommendatioi of the coiymitteo which visited Karor School that a grant of £50 bo made to vipi-ch lev-oiling amU grading the play ground, provided the committee under t.ikes to complete the work to the satis faction of tho board, building repairs t< stand over for tho prepcnl. Mr. Justice Button, sitting in Chambers to-day, was asked by Mr. T. M. Wilford to fix a date for the hearing of the appeal of Jo Gee against the conviction entered against him by Mr. Riddcll, S.M., in the recent "pak-a-poo" cases. Hjs Honour declared himself unable to make an appointment, as this was his last appearance as a judge in his temporary position on the Bench. Application would have to be made to Mr. Justice Cooper ou his return from Waugaiiui.
