THE NATIVE LAND COMMISSION FUTURE MOVEMENTS.
Sir Robert Stout, C.J., Chairman of the Native Land Commission, will leave this aftornoon by steamer for Napior, where ho will meet Mr. A. T. Npata Tho commission will settle what land is to bo leased to Miss Jifijnortzhnsr&n under the Act of last session. This work is fxpected to bo completed in a, day. and tho commission will then go cm to Wanganui for the purpose of determining what portion of Iho unoccupied Maori land tnero is to bo leased and what portion sold. At Napier, if the commission has time, ono or two matters outside the Meinertzhagen case will probably bo disposed of. After tho Wanganui sitting, Sir Robert hopes to got back to Wellington to preside pt tho Compensation Court which will determine tho 'price to bo paid for the Car* rington Estate, Wairafapa, taken by the Crown for oloser settlement. Mr. Ngata will return with tho Chief Justice to Wellington, and the commission, beforo leaving Wellington, will prepare its reports dealing with tho Maori lands in tho Waipu, Coou, and Bay of Plenty counties. The commission will bo unable to deal with Rotqrua until it h in possession of the decision^ of tho Native Land Court. Tho commission will visit Otorahanga on 26th Fobruary, and • subsequently AiV land, probably Uotorua, and North Au-.^-nd.
