General Damado, commander of the French forces, reports that a column under Colonel Boutegourd, operating in the Slmwca hinterland, fought .i brilliant battle with a large number of Mmmbas tribesmen, Fcr a, time the column was surrounded, but after vigorous fighting, which •asted two hours, tho Moors were defeated, with very heavy losses. The French casualties were eight killed and fifty wounded, including several officeis.
