WORK ON THE WANGANUI RIVER WEBB AND TRESIDDER TRAINING.

[Bt TsLEGRArn. — Speoiax to Ths Post.] WAXGANUI, 3rd February. It i 3 evident from the way Tresidder shapes that he is in capital nick. His style has certainly improved in the la&t week or so/ and the opinion is gaining ground that ho wiTl be a much harder man to beat than was first thought. He fairly revels in the gica.t amount of work he is doing both on land and water. Today he put in another solid row covering some seven and a-half miles and finishing well. He is rowing cleaner now than he was. Both he and trainer Bain appear confident. This morning at tho top of spring tide, Webb, with Green as pacemaker, did a fa at spin over something under two miles. The champion set off at 30 to the minute, averaging barely 27 for the whole journey. Green rowed better than ever but had no chance with Webb, who gave the~amateur a good start and caught him before half tho distance. The course was dovn the river and back. Green stopped on being caught and waited for Webb, who rowed homo at a very solid bat, finishing up a shade over 26 to the minute. His stylo was neat and remarkably clean all through, his boat travelling evenly and well between the strokes. It was a good performance considering that tho champion is not yet wound up proporly and ia still suffering somewhat from boils on his left forearm. IHic prisoners who have been engaged :n tree planting at Dnmgrfrp. Marlborough. are to be taken to Lyttelton by (he Hinemoa, which left Wellington for Picton (or that purpose yesterday. As wo" havo aheady stated, the prisoners are to be employed in planting trees _m, JSasm&ttv i
