WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD. VARIOUS MATTERS.

The Wellington Harbour Board met yesterday afternoon, with tho Hon. T. K. Macdonald in the chair. Other member?, present »vere the Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hir-lop), Messrs. H. Beauchamp, R. Fletcher, F. H. Frafer, T. M. Wilford, M.P , C. E. Daniell, F. Townscnd, J. M'Lellan, G. Shirtcliffe, W. T. Wood 1 ! M.P. Bank Pass Books. — Current account, credit balance, £17,261 19s 9d ; imprest account, credit balance, £967 ; on fixed deposit, £60,000. Payments amounting to £18,794 16s were approved. WHARVES COMMITTEE. The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended : (1) to cancel Foreshore License No. 63, held by Mr John Kimmins, of boatshed and dwelling at Waterloo-quay. (2) To cancel Forcf-hore License Jso. 70, boat skids at Petone, held by Mr. C. R. Ralph. <3) To issue a foreshore license to Mr. F. S. Greenshields for boat skids at Balena Bay, subject to approval of the plans by the Marine Department. (4) That the board extend the boiler house and coal store at Waterloo-quay pumping station in accordance with the plans laid on the table. (5) That a joint letter having been received from the shipping companies drawing attention to the large number of fires that have occurred lately on board ships, and seeking the board to put a stop to all smoking on the wharves, a bylaw be prepared for that purpose. The report was adopted A NEW WHARF. Tho plans for (he Pipitea whaVf, to bo erected north of tho King's Wharf (now neaving completion) ■ were presented to the Harbour Board yesterday. The str/ueturo is to be of ferro-concrete and is estimated to cost £125,000. On one side it has a, length of 800 feet, and on the olhel* 650 feet, -,'and provision" is made for two two-storey sheds. A discussion was raised by Mr. Geb. Shirtrliffe as to whether ferro-concrete was the best material to he used. The Engineer (Mr. Ferguson) said the board had already instructed him 'to use ferroconcrete. The board approved the plans, which are to .be pent on to the Marine, Department for the approval of the Govei-nor-in-Council. FAREWELL. Before tho meeting concluded Mr. Beauchamp announced that pressure of business would prevent him from again standing for membership. He mentioned that, he had been a member of the board since 1895, and for three yeais had bepn chairman. Since that, "time the business of the port had made remarkable strides, and that a great increase would take place in the future. He thanked the members of the board, and particularly the secretary, for the courtesy they had always extended to him. OTHER MATTERS. Amongst other notices of motion appearing on the order paper was ihcfollowing by Mr Jletcher — "That, in view of the nltcrcd position due to the adoption of the Evans Bay reclamation scheme, and to the intended purchase of the Patent Slip property, the board hereby resolves to rescind the resolution authorising the construction of tho dock at Clyde-quay, and to have the necessary steps taken forthwith to secure a more advantageous site in close proximity to the Patent Slip in Evans Bay." As the meeting had been unduly prolonged, it was agieed to hold a special meeting next Monday at 2.15 p.m. to discuss the question. '
