CHARGE OF BLACKMAIL. THE CASE OF VELTHEIM.
By Telegraph. — Press Association.— Copyright. (Received January 11, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 10th January. Frank Veltheim, charged with having demanded, with menaces, money from Solly Joel, wa3 remanded. Prosecutor's cross-examination showed that Veltheim claimed to be the late Barney Barnato's political agent. Prosecutor denied that Barnato had paid Veltheim £1500.' In his evidence in chief the prdsecutor testified that he first saw accused in tho dock in Johannesburg in 1898, ho being then tried in connection with witness's brother's death. Witness produced at the Johannesburg trial seven blackmailing letters. The handwriting was the same as that of a letter received in June, 1907, demanding money. The letteV was followed by a draft for £16,000, presented through Dr. Millar, of Antwerp.
