Maxwell on tne wharfago needed now, and the future expansion of the harbour. In regard to the latter, he proposes to remove the north mole, and construct, a new one to provide a larger area; also to extend by 500 feet tho eastern breakwater, recently completed. Tho board/ accepted, with slight modification 'of position, this proposal for 'a 600 ifoet jet^y in ferro-con-crete. The other proposals were left to | the future. It "was resolved also to advertise for a resident engineer a., £400. CrIRISTCHURCH, 10th January. Mr. Hood-Williiuvig, Secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, has received a letter from Mr.. Wilson, tho engineer, who came out here 'sonic little timo ago to inspect and .report upon harbour extension, including the shipb canal to Christchurch. • Mr, Wilson writes that he expected to finish his report by Christmas, and that> it would be ready for transmission to the Dominion early in the present month. That means that it ought to reach hero at the end of February or the beginning of March. The arrival will (jo looked forward to with a great deal of interest locally. WANGANUI, 10th January. The Harbour Board lU-night decided to appoint a resident engineer in connection with the extensive harbour works about to be undertaken. Mr. Leslie Reynolds w«ts. appointed cGiißulting engineer at £200 a year.
