Four fathoms deep fn Fitzroy Bay, somo nino miles from Wellington, lies the wreck of the Halcione, a wool ship that traded out of Wellington to London for many years. When she was wrecked, on her inward journey to Wellington fourteen years ago she had on board of her a quantity of railway iron and lead. The iron has lost its valuo through action of tho salt water, but the lend is not likely to be depreciated, and as there aro fourteen or fifteen tons weight of it an attempt to recover it is being made this week by Mr. A. M. Gow, of this city, assisted by Diver Dixon and his assistant, Mr. P. Ross. For three successive days this week attempts have been made to reach the wreck, but rough weather and breaking seas have frustrated the endeavours. Tho expedition returned to the city this morning, but it is intended to make yet another attempt when tho conditions become moro favourable.
