There are indications that the packers aye preparing to agree to the amendments in the direction of ensuring the rigid inspection which Mr. Roosevelt desires. This is largely due to British consumers' energetic protests. SYDNEY'S SYSTEM. (Received June 19, 1.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, 18th June. As the outcome of the Chicago scandals, the Premier has obtained a reporfc from the Chief Government Medical Officer, showing that the system of inspection and supervision of the meat trade in Sydney is excellent. VICTORIAN SAFEGUARDS. (Received June 19, 8.43 a.m.) LONDON, 18th June. Dr. Albert Gre6swelt, of Melbourne, in a letter to The Times, declares that the safeguards embodied in the Exported Products Act renders Victorian tinned meats most thoroughly reliable.
