ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

While boarding the three-masted scow Southern Isle at the Queen-street wharf, a sailor named Johnston fell headforemost on to the deck, a distance of about lfft. The gangway was not in position, and the man probably tried to catch hold of the rigging. Johnston's condition is precarious. MABTERTOX, 17th June. George Welch, an old settler, of Masterton, committed suicide ori Saturday morning by shooting himself. He lighted a fire in his paddock and laid himself down on the wood, and fired a shot. When found by his son the body was in a much charred condition. Deceased had been in a depressed state of mind since his wife died fourteen years ago. At the inquest to-day the jury returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide while temporarly insane.
