SPEECH BY MR. ARNOLD. (BT TELEGRAPH — OWX COBRiiSPONIJKNT.] DUNEDIN, This Day. Speaking at Waimate on Saturday niglit under the auspices of the Waiinute Workers' Union, Mr. Arnold stated that he intended next session introducing a Brli providing tor the compulsory early doling of shops. The Arbitration Act must be amended to give the Conciliation Boards gieater power. He complained that land had been purchased for workmen's homes in Dunedin which, when loaded, cost 280s an acre, while land for 60s an acre, within ten minutes' walk of a panny tramway section, was refused by the Purchase Board because it was too far away. Speaking of the future, he said in the past the workers had Mr. Seddon to look to, but now he was gone, and they must take action. Within a few weeks the Labour Kirty would sp9ak, and from that on they would be preparing for. the next right, which would give them a party in the House. This Labour, Party would have these planks -in their platform — educational reform, national system to be free from kindergarten to university, referendum with initiative, abolition of trusts, and no present Crown lands to be sold and none purchased 1 or re-sold.
