IMPORTATION OF KAURI TIMBER.

Regarding a statement made by Mr. Justice Chapman ip the Arbitration Court to the effect that kauri timber was being imported into Wellington from Sydney, Mr. T. H. White, President of the Auckland Saivmillcrs' Association; stated in the witness box that as he was connected with the Kauri Timber Company, he had made enquiries both in Sydney and Wellington, but could not find that; kauri timber had been imported from Sydney and sold in Wellington cheaper than timber could be sold from Auckland. Mr. Justice Chapman explained that he got his information from an architect in Wellington. Timber, he believed, was | imported in connection with the newlyerected Bank of New South Wales in Wellington. Mr. White remarked -that the statement had been mado public, and he simply wanted to make a correction. ' *We are informed that the kauri tim-j ber used by Messrs. Mitchell and King in connection with tiheir contract for the erection of the Bank of New South Wales's premises on Lambton-quay was obtained direct from Auckland.
