A MEDICAL OPERATION. CLAM FOR DAMAGES. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH-COPYRIGHT.] CHUISTCHURCH, sth December.
The hearing of the action brought by Miss Jessie Graham, of Auckland, against Dr. Herz, wherein plaintiff claims £500 general and £274 special damages, was continued at the Supreme Court to-day. Defendant gave evidenco that an operation to straighten plaintiff's club foot was properly carried out according to the best methods of Professor Lorenis, under whom he had worked in Germany, and the foot properly attended to afterwards. Gangrene, which set in, was not due to excessive tightness of the plaster cast used to keep the foot imposition after it had been twisted round, but to stoppage in an artery. The case was unfinished when the Court rose till Thursday.
During the voyage of the steamer lonic from London (on 24th November) a three-year-old child named David Clarke died of bronchitis, and was buried at sea. An important sale is announced by Messrs. Thomson and Brown to be held at their rooms, Hunter-street, on Wednesday evening, 13th December. On that date the firm will submit 60 sections on the old Island Bay Racecourse, and having frontages to the Parade, Clyde-stroet, Derwent -street, Cornwall-street, etc. The John Odlin Company (Ltd.), on whose behalf the sections aro to be submitted, is prepared to erect residences on tho land for purchasers on a 10 per emit, deposit, the balance hy nionthly instalments.
