At the District Court, before District Judge Haselden and a jury of four, William Comber Brown, mining engineer, Christchurch, and his wife, Louisa Brown, claimed £300 from Andrew Young, of Ashburton, and* his wife, Ellen Young, for slander, contained in a letter addressed to a Christchurch resident, in which it was alleged that plaintiffs left without paying board and residence due to Young, and that Mrs. Brown stole £2 while residing at Young's. . The jury awarded plaintiff £50 and costs (£ll 14s). "'
