WORKMEN'S HOMES. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — When the Government was charged with buying land for workmen's homes under circumstances which it is alleged gave to intermediaries an unearned profit of £10,000, and recent purchases for the purpose were furnished •which did not bear out the full gravamen of the charge, it seemed strange to me that the most recent purchase of the aort should be left untouched, although it bore the most striking resemblance to the burden of the southern complaint. For some little time now the residents of the Hutt have been agitated over the alleged purchase of what is known at the Nainai as the "Swamp." The history of the block is easily accessible to those who feel interested, and a knowledge of it will show not only that it is not worth by four-fifths the £150 per acre alleged to be paid for it, but also that the Health Department will have to stultify itself, or step in and prevent the use of it, which is now by the neighbouring residents believed to be contemplated by the officials. — I am, • etc., HENRY BODLEY. Wellington, 4th December.

Until further notice cars will leave Lambton-quay and Kelburne every five minutes between noonand 6.3o,u.m. 'daily.
