ANOTHER ABORTIVE ATTEMPT, [rBESS ASSOCIATION.! * LONDON, 10th August. Burgess made an attempt to swim the English Channel, but failed. When nearing Wissant (south of Calais) he was seized with cold, and had to give up, after a strong and plucky swim lasting fourteen hours and a half. Burgess covered altogether (including drifting) about twenty-nine miles.
