ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT. A- MISSING ACCOUNTANT.

[BY TELEGHAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 10th August. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of P. Dawson, accountant to the Auckland Racing Club, on a charge of having appropriated a considerable sum of money, the property of his eninloyers. The warrant has been placed in the hands of .tho police for execution. Dawson .ha 6 not bean at the office since Wednesday. He is said to have remarked on that day that it was his intention to pay a visl. to Waiuku. It is believed he left for Fiji by the Taviuni on the same afternoon, and the authorities at Suvahave been communicated with .by cable. It is authoritatively announced twat considerably more than £1000 is missing from the club's banking account, ana that probably the amount will be found to ba close on twioa that sum. Auditors are, at work examining the accounts. At tho annual .meeting of members of the Racing Club, held on Monday afternoon, a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with .the general account showed a balance in ths bank of close on £900.
