THE TRADES COUNCIL.
LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council was held last night, Mr. W. H. Hampton (President) in the chair. There was a large number of delegates in attendance. Mr. R. M'Nab, M.H.R., wrote intimating that he would deliver an address on his Absolute Majority Bill at the next meeting of the Council. Mr. Evans wrote suggesting that the Council should take steps to run a single tax candidate at the forthcoming general election. It was decided to thank Mr. Evans for the suggestion, and to inform him that the Council had not the slightest intention of doing what he proposed. - A Committee on BilS; reported that the Workers Compensation for Accidents Act Amendment Bill had been considered, and the Committee rccomnianded that in lieu of clause 2, providing for a weekly payment of 60 per cent, of the average weekly earnings, with a minimum weekly payment of £1, Parliament should be ie<juested to give effect to the resolution of the previous conference providing tliat an injured worker should receive full pay from the date of accident up to the date of recovery, such wag_e to be at the same rate aa that received by the worker prior and up to tho time of the accident. That clause 3 — empowering the Arbitration Court, wh,ere both parties disagreed as to the mode of investment of any lump sum awarded an inI jured worker, to 'order that such amount I be paid to the worker as it may direct — bo struck out. Tho rejiort was adopted.
