THE DEATH OF MR. WILTSHIRE.

SYMPATHY OF THE CITY COUNCIL. As a mark of respect to the memory, oi one of its members, Councillor Wiltshire, who died suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday afternoon, the City Council last Right adjourned its fortnightly sitting. The Mayor (the Hon. T. W. Hislop) /aid all the Councillors must have received rhe news, of their fellow-Councillor's demise as a great shock and with very deep regret. The sudd-er passing away of one of their number reminded them all of the idander hold they had on life. Councillor Wiltshire had served the city long, faithfully, and well, and had earned the respect of citizens. His Worship moved that the following resolution be pbced on the city's records ag as appreciation of the deceased's services: — ".This Council places] on record its sense of profound grief at the. suddeo death, of Councillor Wiltshire, who, during a long period, faithfully served tho city as a careful and conscientious officer, and who had for over two yeara displayed exceptional zeal and industry as a. Councillor. The Council tenders to' his widow and family their sympathy in their irretrievable lo3s, and directs llfct a copy of this resolution be sent to Mrs. Wiltshire." The motion was seconded by Councillor Winder, and was spoken to feelingly and in terms eulogistic of the deceased's personal qualities, technical knowledge, ready and zealou3 service, and devotsdness to duty, by Councillors Godber, Carmichael, >md Trevor. All the speukers expressed the greatest sympathy with the family of the deceased. The motion was adopted in silence by Councillors rising to their feet. The deceased is to be interred at Karon, and the funeral is to leave Rin-tonl-streefc at 2.30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.
