AUCKLAND HARBOUR.
THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS. [BY XKLEGBAPH— PRESS ASSOCrATION.j AUCKLAND, Ist November. At a special meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board to-day a" resolution against compulsory pilotage was carried, and the matter of pilotage was referred to a committee, with a view' to arranging for a suitable lesidence for the Board's pilot crew, so that that they may be easily available when required. Intimation was received that the Government Engineer-in-Chief had finally approved I lie plans of Aitekland Harbour improvements, which had now been signed by the Governor-in-Couucil. A minority of members urged that the opinion of J)r. Napier Bell and Mr. W. Ferguson, engineer to the Wellington Harbour Bowrd, should be got on the scheme, but it was stated that both these gentlnmen had unofficially expressed their opinions in favour of the plans*. Finally, it was decided, by six votes to tKree, to proceed with the work.
