VICTORIA'S BUDGET.
A SUBSTANTIAL SURPLUS. [fbess association.] MELBOURNE, 11th October In tne .Legislative Assembly to-night the Hon. Thomas Bent, Premier and 1 Treasurer, delivered his Budget speeoh. The revenue amounted to £7,508,0w, being £356,000 above the estimate. The railways yielded £3,417,000— £197,000 over the estimate— and the Commonwealth returned ' Victoria £2,002,000/ or £58,000 in excess of the estimate. The expenditure totalled £6,915,000, leaving a surplus of £593,000. The estimated revenue tor the current; year is £7,219,000, including £1,970,000 to be returned by the Commonwealth. The expenditure is estimated at £7,046,000, leaving a surplus of £173,000.
