UNEMPLOYED, IN DUNEDIN.

[BY TELEGKAPH — PHESS ASSOCIATION ] DUNEDIN, 11th October. The Special Committee of the City Council will submit recommendations to the Council which, if adopted, will provide temporary work for eoine of the unemployed. Up to the present 147 have registered liheir names with the Trades Hall.

A reception in honour of Dr. Creser, who has been conducting the Trinity College Musical Examinations throughout. the colony, was held yesterday afternoon in Godber's Rooms by the Committee and teachers supporting these examina'lions in the Wellington centre. Mr. a. J. .Wicks, the local Secretary, occupied the chair in the absence of Messrs. J. G. W. Aitkon and W. H. P. Barber, M.H.R.'s, who could not attend owing to the pressure of Parliamentary business. The Chairman said it was seldom they could get an opportunity of meeting with their examiners in social circles^ and he thought they owed a debt of gr»titude to Dr. Creser for being amongst then? that afternoon. On behalf of the teachers and Committee he then extended the guest a henrty welcome, md wished him an enjoyable trip throughout the colony. Dr. Creser, in reply, riiferrad to the long distance he had y>urni»ynl to conduct the examinations, and said one coming from the larger centres of civilisation was apt to think that no one knew much outside those circles. However, he thought differently, for scanning the examination sheets prior to attending the reception he saw that the average of passes and honours was equal to the averages in the best towns in England. (Hear, hear.) He then dwelt on tho subject of teaching music, and gave a number of vain able hints concerning the musical education of children — a subject which he said he was giving his life to. He referred to the pleasure which he had experienced during his travels in New Zealand, and said he wag sure the college officials at Homo would appreciate the kindness extended to him as one of their representatives. The afternoon was spent at tea and -social intercourse. Me<isr«.
