FLYING THE FRENCH ENSIGN.
LO-MJUN, 24th August. A warship resembling, and supposed to be, the Smolensk, passed Capo St. Francis (south-west of Port Elizaboth, South Africa), on Friday, flying the French ensign. The Times says: — "If the Smolensk and tho St. Petersburg proceeded to South Africa, they might now be ex--pocted there. It seems out of the question that the cruisers' purchased from Germany should have reached the spot." Tho Durban corespondent of The Times says it now appears certain that the cruiser is the Smolensk.
