DEATH OF MR. A.S.ATKINSON.

fBT TELEGBAFH — PUESB ASSOCIATION.! NELSON, This Day. Mr. A. S. Atkinson, a very old resident of Nelson, and partner in the firm of Fell and Atkinson, solicitors, died last night. Deceased was brother of the late Sir Hairy Atkinson, brother-in-law of the late Mr. Justice .Richmond, and father of the ex-member for Wellington. He originally settled in Taranaki, but subsequently removed to Nelson, whera he was greatly esteemed. He had been in ill-health for some years. The. late Mr. Atkinson, though not figuring so prominently in political life as his brother and other relatives, always took an active interest in public affairs. He was one of the earlier members of the Philosophical Institute, and an occasional contributor to the Transactions, chiefly in matters connected with Maori philology and archaeology.
