[BT TELEGBAFH — OWN COBKESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, This Day. It is rumoured that so far as the recount has gone prohibition has been carried at Chalmers by seven votea. This is not taking into account the Broad Bay return, which in some unexplainable manner has gone astray. At a thanksgiving service held last night in connection with the local option vote it was stated that the temperance party intended to continue the fight. The Rev. Mr. Sinclair, who presided, said he was firmly convinced that the reason why the vote in favour of no-license was increasing so rapidly was that me women voters w,ere coming more and more to the side of no-license. Mr. John MacGregor, formerly member of the Legislative Council, and a well known barrister of this city, in a letter to the Star declares that if the licensing poll for Dunedin is set aside owing to irregularities no renewals can be granted next June, there being no power to order a fresh poll. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] • CHRISTCHURCH, 10th December. The recount of the Kaiapoi local option poll shows that reduction was carried by 164 -rotes. 3STo-license -was losfc by 43 votes. The voting was — Continuance, 1601 ; reduction, 2132 ; no-license, 2319 ; informal, 51. DUNEDIN, 10th December. After the recount to-day prohibition was declared carried in the Bruce electorate by 31 votes. The numbers are — Voters 3901, prohibition 2372.
