[MESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 12th November. In the Magistrate's Court this morning William Richardson, -charged with disturbing Sir Joseph Ward's recent meeting in Auckland, was fined £2 and costs. A private advice from Apia reports that the island of Savaii is in eruption. Five or six craters are smoking and flaming there, and one village is covered two inches deep with ashes. CHRISTCHURCH, 12th November. A conference of delegates of the various acclimatisation associations met this morning, and discussed matters in connection with the pioposed establishment of a central association for New Zealand. About twenty delegates were present. The Chairman, Mr. M'Haffie, stated that a future conference in Christchurch "would probably frame rules. The election of delegates would take placs after that, and . a conference would be held periodically in Wellington. After discussion it was lesolved — "That this meeting considers it advisable to hold a- conference in Wellington on the 23rd January, 1903, for the purpose of forming a -society for New Zealand, and that the various societies be asked, to each send two delegates, with voting power for one, to the conference, authorised to take all necessary steps for the formation of the association." The Canterbury Society was appointed the convening body. DUNEDIN, 12th: November. At the City Council's meeting to-nigh 6 Mr. Carnegie's offer of £10,000 towards a free public library, provided £700 per annum was provided for its support, was referred to the Finance Committee, the committee to communicate with suburban Councils as to charing part of the £700. WAIPAWA, This Day. At the county election, Mr. A. E. Jull defeated the Hont W. C. Smith by a substantial majority. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ' At a meeting of the Sheep-breeders' Association of New Zealand last evening, it wa3 decided to register the association iinder the Unclassified Societies Act, the head office to be in Chris tchurch. In regard-to the resolution passed by the North and South Island Councils in Dunedin that the date of collecting breed ing returns for the Flock-Dook be altered from 31st May to 31st December, it was decided that the dale for 'the South Island be 31st May as hitherto. The Secretary was instructed to prepare a Flock-book for 'the South Island as 3oon as the returns have been collected. This will necessitate the publication of two flock-books, one for the J'orth Island and one for the South. TIMARU, This Day. A plebiscite taken here on the Bible-in-schools question resulted in over 90 per cent, of those voting recording their votes in favour of the proposal. Four seamen belonging to the ship Oamaru were charged in the. Magistrate's Court this morning with failing to obey the lawful commands of the captain, and were each fined 275, or seven flays' imprisonment. HOKXITKA, This -Day. The county elections yesterda) created a good deal of interest throughout the district. Messrs. J. F. Byrne and Staines, Councillors of long standing, were supplanted by Messrs. Duff and Cumming. Another new member, owing to increased representation, is Mr. M'Guigan, of Kanieri. WANGANUI, This Day. Mr. Benjamin Edwards, late Native Assessor, died last night, aged 58. Deceased, who saw active service in the Maori war and was highly commended for his bravery, was a fine Maori linguist and a man of great integrity. The entries of stock for the Wanganui Agricultural Show next week constitute a record for the colony, totalling 2274, as against Palmerston's 1834 and Christchurch's 1148. (Our Own Correspondent.)
