Dr. Goldie states that the launching of the boats was an extremely slow process. It was twenty minutes before the first boat was in the water. When rocks were plainly visible ahead it was a matter of surprise to those on the deck of the steamer that she did not go astern, though the order was evidently given from the bridge. Miss Greenwood, who was among those saved from tho wreck, has telegraphed to her friends in Wellington that she saw her father and mother in the third officer's boat, which was well provisioned and manned.
