"A RUNAWAYJ3IRL." The search for the girl who ran away from a convent because she did not want to marry the man she did eventually want to marry, was continued at the Opera House last night before a large and appreciative audience. The comedy, element went with a fine swing, and encores of the popular numbers were constant. The many laughable incidents were greatly enjoyed. The search will take place again this evening. On Saturday night Mr. P. R. Dix'a Gaiety Company will re-occupy the Theatre Royal. Messrs. Callahan and Mack, Irish sketch artists, and Mr. Brown Parker, athlete and ball-puncher, will be amongst the entertainers. !* "The great and only Railway Picnic" is the announcement made to-night in connection with the outing at the Cpper Hutt next Saturday. Particulars will be found advertised, and give promise of a pleasant picnic gathering. There was a large gathering at the tea- | meeting in Trinity Wesleyan Church Schoolroom, Riddiford-street, last evening, in connection with the anniversary of the Sunday-school. The report was j read by the Secretary, Air. Boxall. The [ programme included musical selections by the choir, recitations by scholars, and addresses by . the Rev. G. Bond, Mr. Lawry, superintendent, and Mr. C. D. Macintosh. A presentation was made to Mr. Lawry in recognition of his services as superintendent, the token of appreciation taking the form of an inkstand. The series of social gatherings given in the Foresters' Hall, , Tory-street, in connection with Jupp's Brass Band, ' was brdught to a close last night by a very successful one, at which about seventy couples were present.. Messrs. A. Mongall and W. Mus,son were M.C.'s, and vocal items were given by members of the Jupp family, a solo by Miss E. Lusty, and a violin solo by Mr. A. Williams Dancing was kept up till an early hour. Mrs. Schoch (Official Visitor) and a party of friends Porirua*Asylum on Tuesday evening to entertain* the patients at a vocal and instrumental concert. Contributors were Misses Nordene, Denhardt, and Benge, and Messrs. Williams, Berlin, Nordene, and M'Cormish.
