OUR RETURNED TROOPERS.

■TO THE EDITOE. Sir — To those who are not deprived of their usual slumber through their admi.ration for the methods of Mr. Seddon 'and his servile following, it was- looked upon as a matter of course that the ' popular hue .would be specially favoured. This was carried even to the extent of sending men to South Africa, with the chance of never returning. We now see it even in the granting of sick leave to returned men. I am aware of a case which I view as one of very great hardship. A man was wounded through both hips, and the spinal cord was touched. He got -one month's sick leave ; then it was suggested to him that he could go into the country to join, one of the cooperative gangs, which he did, but soon had to give in. A messengership would have suited this man. Another case — an officer who came, as he said, in real good form, and certainly his friends had no occasion, to doubt his 'words. After having been engaged for some months on the accounts of the contingents, he has received six months' sick leave of absence, and those who know this are wondering what for, especially after refusing a billet in the big building as not good enough, that he was returning to South Africa, where he could get a- better. These, sir, are true cases. How many others of a similar nature it would be hard to say. I trust you will kindly insert these remarks, as another proof of how things are being worked by the most Liberal Government under the face of the sun, as Mr. Seddon is pleased sometimes to infer. — I am, etc., DEMOCRAT.
