MUNICIPAL ELECTI ONS, MORE CITY NOMINATIONS.
To-morrow is the final day for the lodgment of nominations for the muni--cipal elections. The City Returning received the following nominations to-day : — Councillor John Smith, .jun., nominated by Messrs. H. Baillie, T. Bush, C. E. Batkin; Mr. Robt. Henry Davenport, nominated by Messrs. B. F. Whitaker, D. Drake, J. B. Speed, and Win. Freeman; Councillor George Anderson, nominated by Mesrs. F. H. D. Bell, M. P. Cameron, and John Collins; ?Mr. Henry Fielder, nominated by Messrs. Robert >lattln,. Win. Hume, and F. Cohen; Councillor Matthew 'Murdoch, -nominated by Messrs E. Gray, J. Young, E. 0. Batkin, Rev. G. Mann; Mr. J. iGodber, nominated by Messrs G. Wilson, H. J. Williams, P. R. Russell, and R. O'Connor; Mr. ,David Nathan, nominated by Messrs. John Duncan, F. Dyer, jand S. Brown. Mr. R. C. Kirk, who has filled the office of Mayor of P6tone for many successive years, does not intend to accept nomination for a further term, seeing that a well-known Councillor Of many years' standing is in the field. In t»nother column, Mi 1 . Eirk addresses the burgesses, thanking them for their cordial support in the past, and brieily touching Upon the borough's projects. Mr. Allan Qrr, speaking at the corner of Mercer and Willis-streets on Saturday night, expressed himself in favour of paying the responsible officials of the City Council good salaries. He maintained that the Council -ought not to> pay the Town Clerk less than the Tramway Manager, and Also urged ''that one man could nob hold the positions of Rate Collector and the City Treasurorship and do just-ice to bobh. Mr. Ori received a vote of thanks and confidence. Meetings in connection With the city elections will be addressed as follows this evening: — Councillor Tolhurst, at Victoria Hall, Adelaide-road. To-morrow night— Councillor Luke at the Primitive Methodist Schbo'.room, Sydney - street; Mr. D. J. Nathan, at Victoria H*U, Ade-laide-road. Mr. G- Frost, , who is seeking re-elec-tion as Mayor of Melrose, will speak in Heginbotham's Hall, Kilbirnie, to-night. Mr. B. Lynneberg announces his candidature for the East Ward of Onslow. Councillor R. M. Tolhurst, one of the candidates for re-election to the City Council, will address a meeting of burgesses at the Victoria Hall, Adelaideroad, this evening. ,1 Mr. R. O'Connor has been asked to allow himself to be nominated for a seat on the City Council, and has promised to consider the matter and give an early reply. [BY. Some years ago he held the position for seven years. The candidates for the seats on the Council are : — Messrs. R. Bright, M. Lyons, H. Trotman, W. H. Day, H. W. Duff, 0. Rogers, A. C. Bicknell, E. Playle, A. Murray, M. R. Varnham, and A. C. Prentice. The election will be held on the 24th.
