MB. CHAMBERLAIN'S LATEST LEGAL ADVICE. THE COLONIES UNANIMOUS IN RESISTING COMPENSATION. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, sth February. The Right Hon. J. Chamberlain, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has been legally advised that the New Guinea Syndicate has no claim for compensation. He only recommended the payment of out-of-pocket expenses to the company since April last. Sydney, 6th February. The Rigbt Hon. Geo. Reid, Premier of New South Wales, states that the several colonies will strenuously oppose the payment of compensation to the New Guinea Land Syndicate unless the syndicate is able to make out a strong claim. , It has been arranged that all the AgentsGeneral shall deal with the claim, and that the colonies will abide their decision.
