HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday afternoon, and' was attended by Messrs. F. H. Fraser (Chairman), J. R. Blair (Mayor), T. J. Gale* J> Hutcheson, M.H.R., N. Reid, W Cable, H. Beauchamp, and W. Booth. The state of the bank-book '•wW J &hown as under : — Credit balance to credit account, £1149 ; and to^imprest^ages account, £250 ; on fixed deposit, £34,000. The following payments were authorised : For accounts and wages, £4645 ; for salaries for- January*, y£429y £429 ; progress payments on contracts, £474. The Chairman reported the adjournment of the statutory annual meeting of the Board required under Section 5o of the Harbours Act, 1878, to be held on the 3rd Monday in the month of January, to a day and time to be notified when the accounts have been received audited from the Audit Office ; also that the plans for contract No. 95, concrete wall with timber staging, Waterloo-quay South, and fcr contract No. 96, concrete wall and water•course extensions at Te Aro, had been received from the Marine Department with the anprbVarof tlie GovSrnb'r-iri'-Co'uhcil affixed.' ' ' ••• : '< <io1 The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended,: — !< ,Xhat the seal of,thb Board be affixed to. appointments of Mi. T. H. Smith as Assistant Secretary, and as returning officer for elections by payers of dues and owners of ships.' 2f. That owing to the recent increase in the shipment of hemp and oonsequent use of dumping bands, the tenders to close next March be for 225 tons of hoop steel and five tons of sluds, in place of for 175 tons of hoop steel and three tons of studs, and that specifications of the altered lengths ol cut and punched hoops be issued. 6. That the request of Mr. Trevor, contractor ' for the Hydraulic Pumping Station Buildings, contract No. 90, for payment of part of the sums deducted as liquidated damages be declined. 4. That the Board approve of the arrangement with the Railway Department for the proposed working of the Glasgow Wharf as contained in the memorandum accompanying the letter of the Assistant General Manager of Railways, dated 29th December, 1898. 5. That the Board present a petition to Parliament during next session on the subject of the refusal by Government Departments to pay the Board for services rendered. The report was approved, . . The opinion of the Board's solicitor was read to the effect that absence from four consecutive duly summoned meetings of the Board, whether ordinary, statutory, or special, disqualified a member from sitting. It was resolved to forward a copy of the opinion to Mr. George Fisher.
