GOLF. THE CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO WELLINGTON.

[BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION J Christchurcii. 23rd September, The final for the Golf Championship was played this afternoon, W. Pryde (of the Hutt Club) defeating Wilder (Canterbury) by 5 vp v and 4 to play. The winner played a very skilful game, and was more successful than Wilder in his putting. The next championship will probably be played on the Wellington Club s links at Miramar. [Mr. Wm. Pryde, the winner of the New Zealand Golf Championship, is captain of the Hutt Golf Club, and is a brother of Mr. D. Pryde, who won last year's championship. He learned the game at St. Andrew's, Scotland, and is considered to be one of the best players in Australasia. The 'only other championship meeting which he has taken part in since coming to New Zealand was the one held at the Hutt about three years ago, when, owing to ill-health, he was beaten in the final by Dr. Gossett, of •Christchurch.]
