STAR BOATING CLUB.

the 29th annual meeting of the above olub j was held in the club-house last night. The I President, Mr. Edward Pearce, occupied the . chair. Twenty-one new aotive members were eleqted. The-ropor6 and balance-sheet ' were adopted without discussion. Mr. E. Pearce was re-eleotcd President for tho 13th successive year, and Mr. W. H. Field was re-elected Captain for the sixth year. The romaising officers were clooted as follows : - Depnty-Captain, Mr. N. Galbraith ; Secretary, Mr. C. Pearoe (re-elected) ; Treasurer, Mr. H. L. Wiggins; General Committee, Messrs. A. H. iiarnett, G. H. Betbune, G. C. Faohe, C. A. Knapp, W. H. Morrah, and C. B. Trimnell ; A^dj^^. I tors, Messrs. A. E. Dean and W. B. Symono (re-eleotcd). On the motion of Mr. A. S. • t Biss, a vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers — Messrs. J. C. Martin s (Deputy Captain), J. P. Maxwell (from the ¦ Committee), and W. H. Morrah (Treasurer). ' In replying, Mr. Martin urged the olub to , endeavour to win the next Championship, r laying stress- on the importance of starting , praotioe early in the year, to oounteraot .the P disadvantages of broken weather and water generally met with later in the season. A new rule, proposed by Mr. J. Smith, that any member who had paid the full subscription of J£2 a year for 10 years should on payment of £l la a year be entitled to all the privileges of the Club except speaking and voting at , meetings, was opposed on financial grounds,',, and lost.'. It was resolved on Mr. Smith's motion to abolish the Match Committee and appoint a Seleotor of Crews, and Mr. N. Galbraith was unanimously oleoted to the poai9 tion. A motion to divide the Club into six classes, viz., maiden, junior, and senior oarsmen, and maiden, junior, and senior j scullers, was lost Mr. B. Y. Goring was eleoted a life honorary member of the Club, and Mr. H. Pollen a life aotive member. It was resolved to approach other olnbs with the view of opening the rowing season on the 1 last Saturday in September in each year. f The Committee was directed to oonsider the question of increasing the value of prizes for . wins in regatta raoes as compared with wins in olub races.
