CANTERBURY v. AUCKLAND. [bt tilkgbafe.— prise association. I Chbistchubch, This Dat. The Canterbury and Auokland match produoed a tough struggle yesterday. The game ended in a win for Canterbury by 10 points to nil. Neither side was able to cross the other's line, but grand place-kick-ing by Appleby, of Canterbury, enabled the local team to win by two penalty goals and one goal from a mark to nothing. The game was not very interesting. The whistle was going inoessantly, and 'sornms were plentiful. The Auokland forwards beat their opponents, but had bad luok in the first spell in playing against a Btrong nor' wester, whioh died away after the Bides had changed over. Mr. J. P. Firth, of Wellington, was referee, and had by arrangement the sole charge of the game. He was very strict, and towards the close of the plar ordered Bonayne, three-quarter baok for Auokland, off the field for continuous insulting remark*. The matoh Nelson College r. The Association Tournament began yesterday, when' Auckland- beatjSVellington by two goals to love. In the first spell Austin Smith scored, and in the seoond spell Hamilton put the ball over Wellington's bar. A strong wind was blowing. Auckland meets Ruahine to-morrow. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. The Auokland men arrived from the South by the Takapuna this morning. Their matoh againßt Wellington will begin at Newtown at 3 p.m. to-morrow. The Garrison Band is to play the teams from the Oriental Hotel, where the Aucklanders are staying, starting for the football field at 2.15 p.m. Koaohe ia unable to play for Wellington, and his plaoa will be taken by Baumber. A meeting of the Third-ol&u Association was held list evening, and it was deoided that a representative team be formed to play a seoond of the junior representatives.
