WELLINGTON JIACINO CLUB. The of tha Wellington Racing Club mef yes'ir'Hy aft<miooij, and drow up the report to be ii.tbcnled to the annual meeting next Monday. It states tint the three meetinga held during the past season wero most successful, fally justifying the action the Stewards took in increasing the added money. Xnoluded in the receipts for the past two years is the snm of .£2lB, reoeived for licenses of trainers, jockeys, and apprentices. This money, in nooordtnoe with the decision of the lost Bacing Conference, will be transferred to trust accounts, viz.— trainers' provident fund and jockeys' provident fund— and tha amounts to the credit thereof will be available in cases of accident or distress. The racecourse and appointments have been kept np to their usual standard, though at Easter practically the whole of the new sand track was washed away. The starting maohineß bare proved a sucoess, and are a great help to the starter in despatching his fields evenly, and tbe chances of falso starts are now leduoed to a minimum. The machines, however, require to be manipulated by an experienced starter, and the Stewards were fortunate in inducing Mr. Andrew Young to resume the office, the duties of which he had bo ably performed in an honorary capacity in past years. The receipts for the year ended 31st July include the balance from last year, .£239 8s lid ; entries, £1131 ; booth and cards, £220 ; lawn and gates, £815 4s 8d ; admissions per railway, £310; totalisators (£3536 15s 6d, less State tax £571 15s Id;, £2965 0a sd; members' subscriptions, £118 13s ; jockeys' and apprentices' licenses, £102 10s; the total being £6000 17s 4d. The Stewards of the Wellington Baoing Club passed the following programmes yesterday : — Otaki Maori Bacing Club, 9th November; Taratahi-CartertonitaoingClub, 9fch November ; Lower Valley Jockey Club, 6th December. TBOTTING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club was held in the New Zealander Hotel last evening. The President (Mr. H. D. Crawford) oconpied the chair, and expressed regret that the meeting called of the Metropolitan Trotting Association in the earlier part of the evening had lapsed for want ot a quorum. He would like to see more life infused in trotting matters in Wellington, but ha congratulated the olub on its sound financial position. The balancesheet showed a oredit balance of £34 Is 7d. The olub paid away £987 in stakes during tbe year, and the totalisator reoeipts amounted to £697, out of which the Government received £120. Improvements on the coarse were effoofced at a co it of £112, and a loan of £60 was paid off. On the motion of Mr. K. Pollook the balance-sheet was adopted, bix new members were elected. I'tie election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. H. D. Crawford (reelectod); Vice-Presidents, Messrs. C. P. cikerrett and D. G. A. Cooper (ro-eleoted) ; Treasurer, Mr. J. K. Hamilton (re-elected) ; Judge, Mr. A. Yonng (re-elected) ; Starter, Mr. T. H. Hill (re-elected); Clerk of the Scales, Mr. J. Bamsuy (re-eleoted) ; Clerk of the Course, Mr. T. Smith (re-elected); Handioapper and Secretary, Mr. J. A. Consell; Stewards, Messrs. '1. Green, W. BamEay, P. J. Preston, J. K. Hamilton, B. Pollook (re-elected), J.Coyle.M.T.M'ti rath, and G. M'Donald; Audiio.s, Messrs. W. C". Gasquoine (re-eleoted) and B. Pollook. The President suggested that the outside of the course should be planted with b uo gum trees, and the meeting decided to follow out the suggestion. [At a meeting of stewards later, on the Seorotary was instructed to purchase 500 blue gum plants, and to commence planting operations on Wednesday next.] It was resolved to recommend to the incoming Committee that better seating accommodation for the publio.be provided, and that more suitable buildings be erected for tbe totalisator and Bale of refreshments. Mr. B. Pollook suggested that debentures be issued to provide funds to carry out improvements on the course. Messrs. B. Pollock, J. S. Hamilton, and the President and Seoretkry were appointed delegates to the Wellington Trotting Association. At the conclusion of the meeting the newlyelected delegates to the Trotting Association met, and Mr. H. D. Crawford (President) was unanimously rs-elccted, and Mr. J. A. Connell was appointed Secretary. It was resolved that the Trotting Clubs in the district be informed that the number of delegates to represeut the different olubs on the Association be regulated by tbe num. ber of meetings held by such olubs, allowing one delegate for eaob meeting held. The Taranaki Trott.ng Association wrofa asking the local association to define its boundaries, and tbe meeting decided to include fJie whole of the Wellington Provincial District in its jnrisdiotion. Correspondence vras read from the Canterbury Trotting Association and tbe Auckland Trotting Club with reference to the disqualification of the latter club by the Southern body. It was deoided to defer taking action, so as to allow further negotiations to take plao3 between the two bodies. It was resolved to interview tbe Colonial Seoretary a3 to the reduction of the number of meetings, whioh is necessary in accordance with the Gaming Aot passed last year. At a meeting of the Stewards of the Wellington Trotting Club, a resolution was passed asking Mr. Fitzgerald, the owner of Koaeleaf, who won the Pony Harness Baoe, run at the last meeting of the olub, and also tbe rider (L. Bobertaon), to show cause why they should not be disqualified and refund the stakes, it being alleged that the trotter was not the same as represented in the entry form. Mr. H. D. Crawford, has devised a system to prevent the "ringing in" of trotters, which deserves commendation. He propoaes to bnnd maiden trotters by tatooing the gums of the teeth. A registered code of the mark would be kept, and would thus make clear the identification of the horse. The system would be comparatively painless as against fire branding, and any tampering with the brands would render the hone liable to disqualification for life. There is no doubt, in the face of so much " ringing in" being resorted to lately, that some such remedy is advisable, and Mr. Crawford's ideas appear to solve the difficulty to a great extent. It was stated last night that the Wairarapa Trotting Club was practically defunct, and the Johnsonyille Club was also about to bo wound up. fPBIBB ASSOCIATION.! Stdnit, 19th June.
