ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
| By Tbleobaph. — Press Association, j Hokitika, Gth May. Mr. James Thompson, a well-known contraotor and Government overseer, met with a serious accident between Stafford and Goldsborough. He was sitting by the side of the road, when some firewood was thrown over the faoe of the torraoe, and a piece struck Thompson, causing a bad compound fracture of the right leg. One of his left ribs was also broken. Thompson is an old man, over 80 years of age, and it is feared he will not recover. Gisbobnx, This Oat. A ohild named Henry Crabtree, aged three, fell from a load of wood on whioh he had been given a ride, and the dray, driven by his father, passed over his face, killing him instantly. The body of Alfred Walker, drowned near Ormond on tbe 26th ult., has been recovered. At the inquest on the body of the young man Walter Stewart, son of Mr B. O . Stewart, formerly a Magistrate at the Thames, a verdict of Accidental Drowning was returned.
