'1 ho total amalgam for the week is 29980z from 843 tons. The Big River Company declared a dividend of Is 9d on Saturday evening. This represents a sum of JE2loo,«uid all liabilities cleared, inoluding the oost of the steam winding engine lately procured, Mr. J. M'Hugh has been unanimously elected to fill the vaoanoy in tbe directorate caused by the death of Mr. M'Loughlin. The Bulier dredge return is an excellent one, and a dividend is certain. The company has a surplus of .£2OO. ' Hokitika, <jth May. ' A numerously attended meeting of the executive of the League for the Promotion and Development of Goldmining passed a number of resolutions, and appointed a committee to oolleot data. Miners at the meeting stated that at tiirau there are over 2000 acres of sluicing ground from 20 to over 100 feet deep, with gold all through, and that it would be a highly reinunerativo field for hundreds of minerß if water wore brought on. The following mine returns are to hand : Upper Waipori Dredging Company, 290z 3Jwt 17gr gold for 134 hours; Jutland Flat (Waipori) Company, 2Soz Id wt gold for 136 hours; Enterprise dredge, Alexandra, 21oz sdwt gold. Napier, This Dat. Tho Meanee Hotel, occupied by Mr. P. Doney, was destroyed by- fire this morning.
