The Horowhenua case is still before the Conrt of Appeal. This afternoon Detective Keill apprehended a well-known character named Charles Robinson, aged about 50 years, on the Queen's Wharf, on suspicion of being concerned in the recent gold robbery at the Colonial Muaenm. Robinson was on the point of going on board a steamer bound for Auckland. In his possession were found a quantity of gold dnst— probably two or three ounces in weight—and two quartz specimens. Sir James Hector has identified these as having belonged to the Muaeom. The rowing season will be brought to a oloee to-morrow afternoon, when the Wellington Rowing Club will got eff tbe Kempthorne Fours' competition, for which ten crews are entered. Thb following conversation was overheard in Cuba-street last Saturday : —Mrs. Jones, have you been in C. Smith's, the draper, lately P Yea, I have inst come from there now. Why ? Did you ever see such a tremendous stock of jaokots, golf capes, and mackintoshes P Whatever will they do with them P—there seems enongh for every woman and girl in the colony; in fact, the mantle showroom is so fnll you can scarcely find room to try them on. I thought them exceedingly cheap. I saw somo beautiful jackets at 17s 6d, 22s 6d, 30s, quite equal to what I paid 45s for lost year. —Abvt.
