EDUCATION BOARD.

The Board met to-day. Present—Messrs, J. R. Blair (Chairman), W. C. Buchanan, MH E , W. W. McCardle, J. Young, F. Bradey, F. H. Fraser, W. A. Fitzherbert, Dr. Nowman, M.H.R., and tho Rev. J. Faterson. The financial position of the Board was stated to be as follows :—Cr. to capitation account, -£1&»3 10s Id; debit to building account, .£2177 10s lOd; overdraft, .£531 0s 9d. The following payments wore authorised :—Capitation acconnt, .£343!) 10s Id; building account, .£OS 83 6d. The resignations of Misa Grace Brann (Carfcerton) and Mr. James Leete (Mangamahoe) were accepted, and Miss Clara Treadwell (Thorndon) was granted a month's leave of absence on acconnt of illness. It was decided that Messrs. C. R. Joplin (Tenui) and M'Kenzie (Mauriceville) shonld exchange positions; aUo, that if there is room for the younger children, Third Standard children may be admitted to the Mitchelltown School. Mr. S. Johnston, postmaster at Masterton, applied for an appointment in the Masterton Sohool for his daughter, a pupil teacher at Kaiapoi, and the Board resolved to comply with the request as soon as an opening occurred after the claims of preyiouslyseleored candidates had been dealt with. The Chairman was asked to deal with the qnestion of purchasing a section adjoining the Petone Sohool. The Chairman and Meßsrs. Young and Bradey wero appointed to enquire into and deal with a complaint as to the punishment of a pupil at the Paikakariki School, and the Chairman and Mr. McCardle to deal with the question of exchanging the school site at Newman. A request was made that the Board should take over a new sohool at Taratahi West, and it was deoided that tho sohool must be opened as an aided sohool, and if the attendanoe is maintained tho Board will take over the school. . Mr, MoCardle presented a petition for a. new eohool at Matarua, in the WoodvilleMangahoo Block. Tho matter was deferred for a report from the Chairman and Mr. M'Cardle.
