There was a very large attendance. The report showed the receipts to be £89 17a 4d, and the expenditure £81 lla 3d, leaving n credit balance of £5 6s Id. The report also stated that the number of children on tho roll at the end of last motth was 640, the I attendance having been 550. Although tho number compared with lost year has decreased the attendance bus increased. Thero are now 700 books in the library. Harriet Jenkins won a Board scholarship and James Adams a Wanganui scholarship. Seven drawing scholarships were also gained by the school. The Committee was glad to find that no pupil teachers, probationery or otherwise, are now employed at the school without payment for their services. In the last quarter of 1894 there was one pupil teacher who had Berved two years without remuneration, and another for sis months This the Committee considered a bad form of educational sweating. In speaking to the motion for the adoption of tho report, the system of introducing pupil teachers, the supply of books of v uniform character, and the truant question wore discussed at some length, the Chairman (Mr. A. Koch) urging that the Board should import books and supply them to Committees, so as to minimise the cost to parents. He also gave other instances why a truant school was needed, his remarks being warmly endorsed by the meeting. Mr. George Fisher also spoke to the same effect, and offered several BUggestions with a view to the desired end. Mr. Jenkins feelingly thanked the committee for services rendered on behalf of scholarship candidates. The election resulted as follows :—Messrs. C. T. Benzoni, D. Archibald, A. Koch, M. Murdoch, C. T. Richardson, J. Koae, J. Clark, H. Garrett, and J. Riddick Votes of thanks to the retiring committee closed the business. Tho committee afterwards mot, and elected Mr. A. Koch chairman, and Mr. C. T. Benzoni hon. secretary end treasurer.
