Pahiatua, This Day. At a meeting last night the Ballanoe settlers decided to join the Farmers' Dairy Union. The new factory will be erected in about six weeks. Mr. Udy, one of the directors, was present. Palmbb6ton Nobth, This Day. Yesterday afternoon the Bessie Doyle Company gave a concert at tho Hospital to the patients. This is the first company that has visited tho Hospital, and the performers wero amply repaid for their trouble by the many expressions of gratitnde of the patients. Mr. G. M. Snelson, Chairman of the Hospital Board, thanked the company on behalf of the Board and patients.
[UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. I Christchubch, 27th August. The Avon Eoad Board has decided to pay the sum of .£l5O appropriated for the unemployed to the Charitable Aid Board, in order that the amount may be augmented by the Government subsidy. In the Divorce Court to-day, a deoree nisi was granted in the cases Eanby v. Banby and Wells v. Wells. The wife was petitioner in each case. Tuts Day. The St. Albans Borough Counoil has voted .£25 towards the relief of the unemployed, and claims a subsidy through the Charitable Aid Board. Twenty men were put on work to-day by the Avon Road Board. Dunedin, 27th August. The directors of the Equitable Insurance Company have communicated with the Government in reference to the debate on the company's affairs in the Legislative Counoil, stating that so far from objeoting to any enquiry they court it. The Sew Hoy Big Beach dredge's yield for the week was 450z sdwt 12gr ; and the United Hercules Sluicing Company obtained 240z 7dwt 21gr for 14 days. Thih Day. Port Chalmers is applying for power to convert its loans, representing .£33,000, into 5 per cents. Invercargill, 27th August. About 60 delegates of temperance sooieties aro in town for the Alliance Convention, which opens to-morrow.
