At a meeting of the creditors of Patrick Carr held to-day a guarantee was partly given the Assignee for the expenses of investigating the affairs of the estate, wbioh has no assets, and is said to be in a very unsatisfactory condition. The anglers of Masterton are about to petition ' the Wellington Acclimatisation Society to have the fishing season opened on Ist September. A mailman named Christian has been arrested by Constable Collerton on a charge of opening a letter sent by a native to a relative, and converting a cheque for £5 to his own use. A fashionable ball given by the bachelors of the district was held in the Drill Hall last night. At a meeting of the parishioners of St. Matthew's Church last night 'Mr. F. G. Moore was appointed Parishioners' Churchwarden, and a Vestry was appointed for the ensuing year, who will take immediate steps to have the incumbency filled.
