Auckland, 14th November. A girl named Ellen Brickley, aged 16, swallowed half a box of matches to-night, and was sent to tho Hospital for treatment. In reply to a Huntley deputation, Mr. Cadmau said he oould not promise to assist in placing an import duty on New South Wales coal, as it was essentially a feature of the Government polioy to cultivate reciprocity with the Australian colonies, in view of obtaining a market for our surplus produce. He suggested a reduction of the railway oharges on Huntley coal. This Day. Alex. Fleming, for landing l^lbs cigars and two gallons wines and spirits, on which duty had not been paid, was fined £8 and £2 6s. Chbistchurch, 14th Novomber. The Perpetual Trustees Estate Company has declared an interim dividend for the half-year at the rate of 12} per cent, per annum. '
