[Tho night Hod; William Bede Dalley, -v P. 0., was born iv Sydney in 1831. He early displayed (jreat oratorical talent, and having - studied for the bar, was called in 1856. Ho was shortly afterwards retnmod to the Legislative Assembly as one of the members for Sydney, and was appointed SolHtor-General in tho Cowper Ministry in 1858-59. As a Parliamentary orator, ho had no equal in tho Colpuics; but after » short experience of political life he retired, and for somo yoars refused all tho inducements offered him to return to Parliament. He zealously pursued his profession, and contributed largely to tho press on historical and biographical subjects. Soon after his return to Parliamentary life he became Attorney-General on two occasions, between 1875 and 1877, in the Uobertson Ministry. Ho became a member of the Legislative Couuoil in 1875, and whon the Egyptian war broke out in, 1882, ho was AttorneyGeneral and Aotiog Premier in the Stuart Ministry. It was owing to his energy and eloquent advooaoy that tho project of sending a New South Wales Contingent was adopted, and his services on this occasion wore recognised by tbo Imperial Government with tho offer of a K.C.M.G. This, however, he deolinud, but he afterwards aooepted the honour o;' % Privy Counoillorship, the first distinction of the kind conferred on on Australian statesman. Mr. Dalloy was oonoerned, as counsel, in almost all the great oriminal trials in New South Wales for many years past. For some time ho has been in failing health, and his death can soaroely bo said to have been unexpected:]
