« THK SENIOR CUP. The firgt Senior Cup inatoh of the season, Midland v. Phoenix, was concluded on Saturday, the result being a viotory for the Midland by Boven wickets. The Phoenix requiring 127 to make to roaoh the total of their opponents' first innings, oommenoed batting for the seoond time, and made 162, Moorhouse, Morioc, Taylor, Motley, &nd Hoonan getting into double figures. Gil lon (four for 20) was the most suooossful of the five bowlers triod by the Midland skipper. The Midland roommenoed their second innings, requiring 37 to win. Read (23 not out) and Tustin (II) were he highest scorers for the winners. None of the opposing team succeeded in making double figures. The match at Newtown on Saturday, between teams representing the Pride of Newtown Star Lodge, and St. Mark's Choir boys, resulted in the defeat of the latter by three wickets and 39 runs. Elevens representing the Springfield and Waverley Clubs met on the Batin Reserveon Saturday, the former winning by 59 runs. The visitors made 63 and 54, the principal contributors being F. Aihbolt, 26 (not out) and 17; C. Midlane, 14 and 17. In their first innings the Waverleys scored 31, and in their second attempt they obtained 25, the only double-figure player being Thawley, 15.
