+. MANIFESTO BY THE LAND LEAGUE. SERIOUS RIOTS IN DUBLIN. MR. GLADSTONE UNDER POLICE PROTECTION.
[SKUISe'S TKLEGRA.MS. | Paris, 17th October. - It is authoritatively denied here that the French Government has resigned. The rnmourß whioh have been current to ,that effeot are devoid of foundation. London, 18th October. A proclamation has been issued by the Government in Ireland, warning all peace-ably-dispoaed oitizens to remain at home after dark, until further notice. Mr. Gladstone is suffering from an attack of influenza. Three per cent, oonsols are unchanged at 99. New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations : — 5 per cent. 10-10 loan 100-2 ; 5 per cent. 1839 loan, 103' ; 41 per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 98?-. Australian wheat has advanced Is ; Adelaide, ex store, 58s ; New Zealand ditto, 569 ;- Adelaide flour, ex store, has advanced 6d to 42s Od. Australian tallow, best beef, 4ts 6d ; best mutton, 455. 19th Ootober. The Irish Land League has issued a manifesto exhorting tenants to rofuse to pay rent until the Government abandons its terrorism and restores to the Irish their constitutional rights. Seri us disturbances occurred to-day at Dublin, arising out of the excited feeling now pervading the masses in that city over the strong measures which a*e being adopted by the Government for the suppression of the League. Large mobs of people gathered to-day in the various parts of the city, wrecked several houses, robbed a number of shops, and otherwise committed serious depredations before the constabulary arrived on the scene of the disturbances. - Owing to fears that an attempt may be made on the life of Mr. Gladstone, he is now under strict polioe protection.
